Excursion to the Ore Mountains

The joint excursion will be organized by Sachsenforst for both the participants of the FORECOMON 2025 and the participants of the Task Force Meeting.

The all-day excursion will take us to the Ore Mountains, one of the most severe hot spots of the so-called forest decline. Among other topics, we will see how long-term forest monitoring may support the development and assessment of forest management practices.

We will end the day in the touristic and stunning area of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

General Schedule

Meeting at 8:00

Morning|| Visiting the different monitoring and study sites at Altenberg, including a Level II plot

Lunch|| Hotel Lugsteinhof

Early Afternoon || Visiting Peat Bog in Zinnwald-Georgenfeld and learn about soil liming in the area

Late Afternoon || Visiting the Bastei in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains & option for hiking (~1h)

Dinner || Mill in Rathewalde (Rathewalder Mühle)
